This period gave the Dutch D.J. some time to practice their skills as D.J's or News casters. After I had checked and adjusted the Dutch technical equipment, like studio's and newsroom, I started using my video camera once again so

   Radio 819

Well here is the story of Radio 819, witch started off as radio 558.
When we got to the Ross, there wasn't much for Fred and Lex to do, so when the weather was fine they used to sit on the rear deck of the lady. All the pictures on this pages are video screenshots, so the quality isn't always the best but anyhow! The new antenna system still had to be put up when they arrived, so there was a lot of waiting involved. As some of the pictures will tell you, this 'Valcom" mast was using special 'high tech cones' to keep the water off the guide wires. We nicknamed these cones funnels as that was, what they were. The whole construction took weeks to put up and it even looked good. But that was all it was, for when the transmitter was switched on, it started burning its way through the inside coils of the Valcom mast until there was nothing left. Finally the mast came down in a force 4 to 5 'gale', or only slightly choppy weather.
