Abbott launches improved app for neurostimulation

Abbott (NYSE:ABT) today announced the release of an enhanced version of its NeuroSphere myPath digital health application.

The Abbott Park, Illinois-based company designed the upgraded app with enhanced functionality to help doctors follow their patients more closely as they test Abbott neurostimulation devices to treat their chronic pain.

According to a press release, Abbott’s digital health app can be used on Apple and Android devices, giving the physician, their staff, and the patient a shared view of patient-reported outcome measures at every stage of the process. ‘a course of treatment while trying a spine. cord stimulation device (SCS) or dorsal root ganglia therapy (DRG).

NeuroSphere myPath closely tracks and documents pain through a series of surveys conducted virtually at baseline and during the trial period via the app. Questions focus on pain intensity, relief and changes in physical function experienced by the patient, and general well-being with and without the device throughout treatment.

After the trial concludes, doctors can receive a succinct yet comprehensive end-of-trial report, Abbott said.

The company developed NeuroSphere myPath as part of its Neurosphere family of applications. Abbott Neurosphere apps include the Neurosphere Virtual Clinic, which allows patients to receive care anywhere (with a cellular or Wi-Fi connection and a sufficiently charged patient controller) by connecting with their doctor via secure video chat built into the application and an integrated remote programming function.

Neurosphere allows clinicians to remotely prescribe new treatment parameters to the patient’s neurostimulation device using the Clinician Programming App and a simple and secure remote care connection.

“Our continued development of the NeuroSphere myPath app is part of Abbott’s commitment to developing a new connected health technology that has the potential to bridge the gap between people and their doctors,” said Pedro Malha, vice- president of Abbott in neuromodulation, in the press release. “The myPath digital app and our NeuroSphere virtual clinic allow us to offer a more personalized and proactive approach to managing advanced diseases that are changing the way people access healthcare around the world.”
