Kristine Leschper (fka Mothers) shares the music video for “Picture Window”

Kristine Leschper (fka Mothers) shares a video for “Picture Window,” the latest single from her upcoming album, The Opening, Or Closing Of A Door, which will be released March 4 via ANTI-Records. The self-directed video is inspired by the song’s lyrics: “It’s like a picture, I think, one where we’re untouched by the future.”

“I thought about how easy it was to commune with the mysterious as a child, especially in the ‘natural world’ as we call it, as if it were something alien to us,” says Leschper. . “I was thinking about my sister, our shared childhood experiences, and I wanted to create a soundscape that felt like that. It was obvious to me that the video had to embody the same character of discovery, that it had to slow me down, take me out into the world to look for something unfolding, and I settled into the quiet drama of a stream. I took time-lapse photos and compiled them into video footage, a meditation on the time or timelessness. The resulting video is simple, things are constantly changing and yet nothing happens; I spin endlessly in a circle, a stream is bubbling in eternity.”

The Opening, Or Closing Of A Door is a hymn to the sensory world. It was the first music Leschper released under his first name, having retired the Mothers moniker after eight years of performing and releasing music under that name. Although the two projects are guided by Leschper’s idiosyncratic approach to songwriting, they couldn’t seem more different. While Mothers was inspired by the stark, skeletal sounds of post-punk and contemporary folk, Leschper’s new work is practically baroque, incorporating an array of synthesizers, strings, woodwinds and more than a dozen instruments. percussion instruments.
