Whirlpool and music for perfect meditation

Sufi practitioner and meditation expert Meera Ekin took FICCI FLO members on a spiritual journey during a session held recently in the state capital. During a three-hour session, she talked about the art of meditation through music and swirl during a group number.

“We follow the Mevlevi order of the Sufi poet (Jalal al-Din Muḥammad) Rumi and the learning I received from the teachings and meditation progression of my Guru Anantaji (Garg), followed by the Advait teachings, the Zen process, Osho meditation and more. Here we first prepare the body for the best, followed by Sufi whirling (an act of meditation) and chanting (zikr),” shares the expert from Bangalore.

During the spinning, known as Sema, they presented Khwaja Mere Khwaja…. “It’s a way to connect the heart, body, mind and soul with the divine. Such group performances add energy, but ultimately it’s a solo journey,” says Ekin.

She guided the members not to believe in duality. “You and God are not two entities as such…in fact, everything is divine and one. Whirlwind, satsang, discussions, introspection and meditation are the means to go beyond the mind – the state of meditation. The human mind is very unstable and it easily transports us to various places, even during meditation. Listen, we can’t control our mind and thoughts because things will surely come and go, but we have to believe that what the mind says and shows isn’t always true and control leads us to ultimate meditation. adds Ekin.

Lucknow Chapter President Simu Ghai says, “The Dervishes’ meditation techniques have filled our hearts with divine love. After two hours of preparation, the limbs swirled for about an hour. Our members enjoyed the session and learned a lot from this session. “
